With gender equality being a global discussion, bringing about change is where women’s empowerment has stood. And women have shown, time and again, that given support, opportunity and perseverance, walls can be snapped and ceilings broken.

Breaking Barriers

Empowerment starts with acknowledging and working to remove the barriers women encounter. These can range from social stereotypes to discrimination at work and unequal educational opportunities. These boundaries need to be broken not just by women fighting for change, but by the groups they belong to. It is time for women to break out of the norms, to speak out and own their stories. Scholarships, mentorship schemes and inclusive policies all help level the playing field.

Shattering Ceilings

“The glass ceiling” refers to the ‘glass ceiling’ that is the invisible wall that keeps women from achieving the very pinnacle of success in every sector. There are now thousands of women breaking down these walls, proving that leadership and innovation don’t come down to gender. Whether it’s Kamala Harris, the first woman Vice President of the US, or girls such as Malala Yousafzai, fighting for education, these women have shown me that you can too.

The Impairment of Education and Skills.

Powerful places are those where women have the ability to thrive. Females can do this because they have access to education, training and economic security. Women who are educated and self-sufficient grow not only families but whole communities as well.

Building a Supportive Network

We need sisters and brothers in our empowerment process. With women there is an unshakable force. To be together, to learn from each other, to acknowledge and lift each other up that builds a culture of growth and support. Platforms and communities for women empowerment are places of learning, collaboration and connection.

Creating a Legacy of Change

Empowered women inspire future generations. If a woman succeeds, then she becomes a model for others. The outflow is an ensuing legacy of transformation, ending cycles of exclusion and cultivating a culture of inclusion and diversity.

The more one enables themselves, the better. Women can break down walls, crack windows, and rewrite the narrative of possibility together. It is now or never.
