A humble species of cereal grains, Oats are widely recommended for a healthy diet. They are readily available in market, quick to make and unlike some other grains like quinoa, are inexpensive. Oats are laden with goodness of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and fibre. The many benefits of eating oats include weight loss management and lowering of sugar levels.
Here are some recipes to make delicious oats at home and enjoy this fibrous cereal everyday!
Basic Oats with Fruits– Boil oats in a pan with milk and water. You can add cinnamon or cardamom for flavour. Simmer on low heat until the mixture thickens, this should take 3 to 5 minutes. Enjoy with sweet fruits like strawberries and bananas or add dates, maple syrup, honey for some sweet punch.
Oats Upma or vegetable porridge– This recipe can be made with a lot of veggies to further increase the nutritional value of the meal. Saute veggies, add spices, salt and then add oats, along with warm water. Cook for 3-5 minutes and eat hot. You can add baked or fried peanuts for crunchiness. You can add coconut and coriander too for freshness. Can be eaten by itself or with curd for a full meal.
Oats Omelette- This is a super quick meal with powdered oats. Add oats power to your normal omelette mixture along with milk. Two eggs would require about one-fourth cup of oatmeal to make for a filling meal with oats.
Overnight Cold Oats– If you don’t have time in the morning to cook anything then this breakfast is perfect for you. Just soak oats in milk overnight and they will be ready to have in the morning. You can add nuts and dates to sweeten the mixture and add flavour with more nutrients. You can also add fruits to it in the morning. Make it in a jar and carry it while leaving for work.
