We are living in 2019 and relationships in this age are getting highly confusing and weird. Here are some recent dating trends that are actually happening:
Ghosting
Ghosting occurs when a person severs all forms of communication with his partner without formally breaking up. Ghosting may be done to cease dating without hurting the other person’s feelings but it often ends up hurting the other person more as it leaves a lot of questions unanswered.
Submarining
One of the top dating trends of 2018, submarining involves suddenly cutting all ties and communication with someone you are dating and then emerging again after some weeks or months and acting like nothing happened. It is an extension of ghosting. Submariners often gloss over their absence completely as if their silence needs no explanation.
Cushioning
Another weird and shocking dating trend that has emerged off late is that of Cushioning. It refers to flirting with other people while already being in a relationship. The other person is meant to act as a cushion in case the current relationship ends. It is all about keeping other options in the pipeline.
Breadcrumbing
Breadcrumbing happens when you hint the other person about your interest in them in form of cute or flirtatious text messages without having any intention of taking the relationship to the next level. It is mostly done by selfish people who fear commitment. Benching is another similar trend but there is a little more intention involved in it.
Kittenfishing
The term Kittenfishing was coined by the dating App Hinge. When someone fakes who they are on the social media, in order to impress their love interest, it is termed as kittenfishing. It basically involves presenting oneself in a positive and far brighter light than is actually the case.
