Holi, the festival of colors, is one of India’s most anticipated festival. Although it is a joyous festival, one should ensure that they do not have a hard time after the celebrations are over. The after effects of Holi can have a dark side – damaged skin and ruined hair. For days on end, people can suffer with skin irritation and dry or damaged hair as a result of unsafe colors and toxicity.

Here’s what you can do to protect your skin from Holi colors:

  1. Apply oil – Use either almond oil or coconut oil to protect your skin from harm. The oil can be applied on your face, and on all exposed parts of the body.
  2. Sunscreen – Don’t forget the sun! While the sunscreen will protect your skin from Holi colors, what it does essentially is it allow you to play longer without worrying about developing a bad tan.
  3. Protect your eyes – Wear a pair of sunglasses to protect your eyes and under eye skin. This is a very sensitive part of your face and it could get quiet itchy after a long Holi fest.
  4. Color your nails – Yes, prep your nails! Otherwise they will have Holi colors in them for a long time and it might be harmful if you’re consuming food with your hands. Use a base coat of nail polish to make sure that no Holi colors stick to your nails.

  1. Apply oil – A night before Holi, try to get an oil massage and then leave in the oil. The oil will prevent the colors from sticking to your hair.
  2. Tie your hair – Don’t leave your hair lose! You will have many regrets. Always tie it up in a bun, or braid it. You could also wear a scarf to cover your hair.
  3. Protect your scalp – If you have a sensitive scalp, the toxic chemicals from the Holi colors might cause some irritation. Apply a few drops of lemon juice to reduce this effect.
  4. Wash immediately – As soon as you’re done playing, wash off the colors from your hair.

After Holi, your skin and hair needs special attention. Never scrub your skin or hair too hard as this might damage it further. Use a mixture of sea salt and glycerine with a few drops of aroma oil as a facemask and for your hair, make a mask from two tablespoons of olive oil, four tablespoons of honey and some lemon juice. Once you have completed the routine, you should be good to go!
