Before people could realise the severity of the Coronavirus, it has spread faster. People are still not sure if this virus is really a pandemic. And that has set a very unstable mindset where people are both scared and careless about the situation. It was known that it can be transmitted by touching any contaminated surfaces. And all the precautions like washing hands and wearing gloves and masks were taken. And in this situation, a new study has reported that Coronavirus lingers in the air.

The Finnish scientists have released a 3D illustration of what happens when a contaminated person sneezes or coughs. They have illustrated in the aisles of the supermarket. When a person is in between the aisles shopping if they happen to sneeze or cough, there is an explosion of the virus in the air in the form of aerosols. The heavy aerosols settle on the surfaces. While the light ones disperse and disintegrates. However, that does not happen immediately. The aerosols are 20 – 15 mm. They are too light to be attracted by gravity. Hence, they remain in the air longer.

This when a person walks right after the explosion of the virus, the suspended aerosols may settle into their respiratory tract thus, infecting that person. Thus they get infected without getting in contact with a infected person or surface.

Coronavirus spreads in the air

The study was carried out by Aalto University, the Finnish Meteorological Institute, VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland and the University of Helsinki. This study illustrates the importance of avoiding any busy closed spaces to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. The scientists believe that avoiding closed public spaces like transports, restaurants, super markets or any crowded areas will reduce the mobility of the virus. Thus the spread of the COVID- 19 can be controlled.

This study also illustrates that it’s the responsibility of a person to stay home and maintain distance from others if they are feeling unwell. This will prevent the droplet infection due to the contaminated aerosols.

This is a pandemic if we believe it or not. It is the responsibility of each and every person to take every prevention they can, to avoid the spread of virus. Sick person must maintain distance. Even the healthy person must maintain at least 1m distance from others. One must wear masks and gloves while in public and must maintain hygiene. And people must avoid public spaces. This is the only way to put a stop to COVID-19.
