Pregnancy is a very special time in a women’s life. A moment of unimaginable joy a  mother feels while seeing the newborn on her arms – a joy which every mother should have and the right to experience. But for many pregnant women in Chintadripet and Pudupet community in Egmore, this memory will never come to be a memorable one, the moment of birth is often challenging. This is often due to their poor surrounding and unhealthy lifestyle.

The time during pregnancy is potentially critical, they often feel anxiety, stressed and have negative emotions about themselves due to no proper knowledge about pregnancy, domestic violence and lack of other health factors which ends up in depression.

With no proper awareness about the health care the maternal mortality is considered to be a key health indicator, the causes of maternal deaths are preventable and treatable with timely management by skilled health professional working in a supportive environment. According to the SDG goals by 2030 maternal mortality ratio should reduce to less than 70 per 100,000 live births, with the help of the health workers and by counselling everyone should have access to reproductive health-care services to end the death of newborns and health coverage by the government for the well-being of the mother and child.

This shows to 2000 additional mothers saved annually in 2017 as compared to 2015. A decline of total annual deaths from 32,000 maternal deaths in 2015 to 30,000 deaths in 2017.
