Did you know that 1 in 5 women suffer from Polycystic ovarian syndrome in India? Polycystic ovarian syndrome or PCOs is a condition that affects the hormones of women aged 15-45. It increases the testosterone level in the body and can make women gain huge amounts of weight, and also cause excessive facial hair growth. PCOs happen so often that almost every woman has another woman in their life suffering from PCOs. This condition could lead to ovarian cancer, or infertility. In most cases, however, PCOs can be controlled with these three factors:
- Exercise
- A nutrient-dense diet
- Stress Busting
Here are a few points that will help you or your loved ones manage your PCOs better:
- FOOD
- Watch your sugar intake. Try to avoid consuming excess white sugar.
- Focus on nutrition, not your fiet – eat berries and protein like fish & eggs.
- Reduce insulin resistance levels and reduce cortisol levels with anti-inflammatory foods.
- Eat spicy food! It can limit your intake of foods and still keep you happy.
- NO junk food, or take aways. Try to go organic at all times.
- Healthy fats okay OKAY – Avocado, mackerel, salmon, butter, olive oil and sardines
- Exercise
- Squats, push-ups and weight lifting training could be the answer to your prayers.
- Don’t schedule any ‘rest days’ into your workout plan. Stay on your toes at all times.
- If you can’t motivate yourself to exercise on your own, try to join a gym or get a personal trainer.
- Keep your mind healthy
Women with PCOs can go through drastic mood swings – leading to anxiety and depression. It is important to identify these moments. Some women get upset with the excessive acne breakouts, hair growth, oily hair, and weight gain. And this could add a lot of stress on an individual apart from day to day issues. It’s important to practice yoga, meditation and stick to your hobbies and passions to keep yourself happy and confident.
- Routine Checkups
While you keep your body and mind healthy, it is still important to be in touch with a gynaecologist who can keep track of your progress. Do not focus on holistic approaches alone, instead choose a proper medical treatment and back it up with a good lifestyle.
At the end of all this, you should be bidding good riddance to the problems caused by PCOs!

A fantastic way to purify indoor air is with activated charcoal, also referred to as active carbon. It’s odourless, highly-absorptive and works wonders with eliminating toxins from the air.
